Engraving some clear acrylic as part of a routing job today. Notice how the engraving glows when we shine a light from the edge of the sheet. As the light passes through the clear acrylic, it contacts the frosted engraved areas, causing the light to scatter and diffract. The result is an appearance of glowing letters. Physics and plastics for the win! Very cool.

Today is a special day. On October 1st of 2014, 10 years ago today, PlasTex Precision Manufacturing opened its doors. What a ride it has been. There have been plenty of ups, and plenty of downs (including two floods), and lots of hard work. We have so much gratitude for the friends, associates, vendors, employees, and customers that have helped us succeed along the way. God is good and we, without a doubt, have felt His helping hand throughout the last 10 years. We are truly thankful. Now, let's go do 10 more (minus the floods)!!!!
Having fun machining some 3/4" thick natural nylon today on the router. Nylon is an incredibly strong material with high compressive strength, stiffness, and great abrasion resistance. Fillers such as glass and a variety of lubricants can be added to the material to enhance strength and aid in friction reduction.
