Saint Jerome, priest and Doctor of the Church: born in Dalmatia, in Rome he became an exceptional scholar and cultivated a zeal for the arts and letters, and was baptized there. Attracted strongly to a life of contemplation and embracing an ascetic life, he traveled to the East and was ordained a priest. Upon returning to Rome, he became secretary to Pope Damasus I; he later settled in Bethlehem of Judea and withdrew to a monastic way of life. Through the translation and exposition of Sacred Scripture, he proved to be an outstanding Doctor. He countered in a most admirable way the many threats against the Church, and when he had lived to an advanced age, he finally went to his rest in peace.
Saint Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church, pray for us!

Review: the catholic Catholic imagination of John Darnielle & the Mountain Goats John Darnielle's 'This Year: 365 Songs Annotated' collects lyrics from, and brief reflections on, 365 different Mountain Goats songs. Catholicism saturates his lyrics, which include references to saints, heretics, the rosary and the Bible.
