Is Affordable Really Affordable?
Formerly incarcerated people are 10x more likely to experience homelessness, yet their lived experiences are too often left out of conversations about housing.
We’re putting formerly incarcerated people at the center of this conversation to ask: What does “affordable” really mean when barriers to housing can follow you home?
🏠 Join us for Is Affordable Really Affordable? to listen, learn, and engage in a conversation about housing, reentry, and what it takes to create real pathways to stability.
Register. Show up. Be part of the conversation.

A criminal-legal record can follow someone long after their sentence ends, but what happens when those consequences collide with an affordability crisis? With affordability on the ballot, now is the time to understand what’s at stake for our communities.

Social justice organizations, advocates, community leaders, and everyday residents have an important role to play in what happens in our communities — and that means showing up where decisions are being made.
Commissioners Court considers and votes on programs, policies, funding, initiatives, and other decisions that can have a real impact on the lives of Houston-area residents. When those decisions are helpful to our communities, we should be there to support and strengthen them. When they may cause harm or leave communities behind, we must be there to raise concerns, ask questions, and demand accountability.
🎤 Testifying is more than speaking at a meeting — it is making your voice part of the public record and reminding decision-makers who these policies affect.
Whether you are part of a social justice organization or simply a community member who cares about what happens in your neighborhood, your presence matters. Your testimony matters. Your lived experience matters.
We cannot wait until decisions are already made to become engaged. Showing up is how communities stay informed, hold institutions accountable, and help shape the policies and priorities that affect our future.

🚨BREAKING: The Supreme Court has cleared the way for expanded federal data to be used to check voter registration records.
The ruling allows states, for now, to use the federal SAVE database to verify the citizenship status of people on their voter rolls. The Trump administration says the system is intended to identify potential noncitizens who are registered to vote.
But there are concerns about accuracy. Government databases have previously flagged eligible U.S. citizens as potential noncitizens, raising concerns that eligible voters could be asked to prove their citizenship or face problems with their registration.
There is also an important limitation: federal law restricts states from conducting broad voter-roll removals within 90 days of a federal election, meaning the immediate impact on the November midterms may be limited.
This is a developing story. We’re watching what this decision means for voters and access to the ballot.
