Craig wants to know: Have you tried our two newest cocktails?
1. New Standard Tuning: Nozawa gin layered with sake bermutto, Finger Lakes génépi, and umami bitters.
Savory, herbaceous, electric with sansho pepper 😯
2. La Strada: lacto fermented blueberry, rhubarb, bergamot, and a split base of Ilegal Caribbean Cask + citrus vodka.
Bright, jammy, a little wild around the edges 😏
Nerd alert 🚨 The New Standard Tuning is named after Robert Fripps guitar tuning. Robert Fripp plays guitar on this Brian Eno album 🎸

✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MEET EVAN ✨
Position: Wine Director
Big 3: Virgo 🌞 Cap 🌝 Sag ⬆️
You know her, you love her— but it’s time to go a little deeper.
Our illustrious wine director, Evan (aka Egg/Eggvan) is from right here in the Houston Heights, born and raised since ‘88.
Her first job was at Coldstone Creamery in Meyerland Plaza when she was just 15, and it’s also where she first met Jacques, Chef and Owner of Baso. Coldstone employees had to sing every time someone tipped, and Jacques (plus his little crew) would apparently loiter around tipping in pennies just to make them sing. Not much has changed there.
“I used to f**k with her with the tip jar and i’d drop a penny in and she’d have to sing. I remember the words… they’re engrained in my brain” - Jacques
Fast forward to now, Evan says that running a wine program was always the dream. She was simply following it, happy to sing a tune along the way 🎶
One thing she loves most about her role? Our team. Hands down. “We truly learn, grow, and have so much fun together”. Evan’s love for her co-workers is one of many reasons we adore her ❤️
Outside of work, Evan DJs with her boyfriend once a month on Ice House Radio and has a deeply creative life centered around performance and sound art. She’s also into journaling all her big feelings, reading, karaoke, tabletop games, period dramas, Antiques Roadshow, and vintage Price Is Right episodes from the ’80s, like any cultured, well-rounded individual.
Her biggest inspirations are the women absolutely killing it in restaurant management and wine, especially here in Houston, alongside friends creating meaningful food and art events, and community organizers doing important work.
A meal that changed everything? Brennan’s turtle soup at age 8.
“Totally blew my mind.”
Current comfort food favorite: Mole enchiladas from La Tapatia on Richmond.
Fun fact: Evan knows every version of the Blue Bell Ice Cream jingles. Every single one.
Three words: Silly. Experimental. Thoughtful.
Favorite quote: “Love you, Mean It!” - Ryan Grimes
Currently listening to: underscores 🎶
We’re sorry 🥺
Zibbibo. You want it. Evan has it 🥂😎
