Ahead of hurricane season, we adjust staffing and pre-position crews at key operational zones, including our Turning Basin, Barbours Cut, and Bayport terminals.
Our preparation involves three main steps:
• Conducting comprehensive equipment checks across all docks.
• Coordinating with external agencies to maintain clear communication.
• Deploying a designated ride-out team to handle essential functions on-site during severe weather.

Hurricane season is back in the Gulf Coast Region.
At Port Houston, critical infrastructure readiness includes pre-staging generators, reinforcing communications systems, and prioritizing emergency responses to ensure we’re READY for hurricanes and natural disasters.
At home, some helpful tips to prepare include building a disaster preparedness kit with necessities like important family documents, a first aid kit, important telephone numbers, food, and medications. Visit: https://www.noaa.gov/hurricane-prep for more helpful tools.

From the devices we use every day to machinery, appliances, and electronics, these are among the top imports moving through Port Houston.
These goods travel thousands of miles before reaching our terminals and ultimately support businesses and households across the region. Port Houston handles 75% of containers moving in the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Port Houston is the number one export gateway for resin, handling approximately 62% of the U.S. market share.
With more than 929,000 TEUs of resin exports moved through our facilities last year, these materials are shipped worldwide and used in everything from packaging to everyday products.
It’s a powerful example of how Houston connects local industry to global markets.
