Behind every great performance, every student opportunity, and every meaningful community experience is a group of people who choose to invest in the arts.
As we celebrate the 11th Annual Legacy Concert and honor four remarkable women whose contributions have helped shape Black music history, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors. Your support makes it possible for CMCH to continue providing music education, creating impactful programs, and bringing our community together through the power of music.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us preserve the legacy of those who came before us while inspiring the next generation of artists and musicians.
We are honored to have you as part of the CMCH family.

Black Music Month is more than a celebration—it is a recognition of a legacy that has shaped the sound of the world. From spirituals sung in the fields, to freedom songs during the Civil Rights Movement, from jazz clubs and gospel churches to hip-hop cyphers and symphony halls, Black music has been the heartbeat of culture for generations. Its influence can be heard in nearly every genre we know today.
This month, we honor the artists, innovators, educators, and visionaries who transformed struggle into song, community into movement, and music into a powerful force for change. As one of the oldest active Black orchestras in the nation, the Community Music Center of Houston (CMCH) is proud to be a living part of that history—preserving, performing, and celebrating the rich traditions of Black music while helping shape its future.
Join us on June 7 at the Historic Eldorado Ballroom for our Legacy Concert as we honor four extraordinary women whose contributions have left a lasting mark on Houston’s musical landscape and beyond. We’re also thrilled to welcome the Firey String Sistas from New York for their Houston debut.
How are you celebrating Black Music Month?

During an interview with Dr. Lundy, the Music Director at Community Music Center of Houston, we asked her the importance of the building they have purchased. She described the cultural & historical importance and how this will impact the community. As music education is being taken out of schools and communities are lacking exposure to instruments and music, communities like ours are often affected. But we have purchased 3020 Holman St.!!! This means more opportunities for musicians here in Third Ward, more access to arts and music education, more performances, mentorship, summer camps, and a space where creativity can thrive for generations to come‼️
With your support, we can make it happen. Be a part of the change and help us build a lasting impact in our community. ❤️ Since 1979. If you or someone you know has been impacted by our organization, please share your story! To donate, visit CMCHouston.Org or the fundraiser linked to our Instagram.
