Just thought I’d share on this Sunday morning an exhibition I have coming up with Poetics of the Mundane groups objects and paintings inspired by everyday items and the transition that takes place in making an aesthetically pleasing art work from this seed of inspiration. Opening reception May 2nd from 5-8pm.

Chronolith (as a reference to time and stone) is one of my favorite pieces to come out of the wood kiln The color variation is indicative of piece that was partially buried in a coal bed. The portion of the piece that was buried in the coals became insulated and the ash did not melt. It also helps to cool the piece in reduction, which is where the iron reds and purples are coming from. The other side that was not buried got hotter, and the ash melted turning into a greenish glaze.
