Ever wonder what keeps cities running when heavy rain hits, or roads get flooded? A lot of the hard work happens underground.

Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) has been helping move stormwater, support sewer systems, and protect communities for more than 100 years. In fact, some concrete pipe systems installed in the 1800s are still in service today.

Built to handle heavy traffic, extreme weather, and large volumes of water, RCP is one of the most durable and dependable materials used in infrastructure. It may not be the most visible part of a project, but it is one of the most important.

At Rinker Materials, we are proud to provide solutions that help keep communities moving, safe, and prepared for the future.

When discussing stormwater management, conversations often focus on pipe capacity and hydraulic calculations. Equally important are the structures that collect and transition flow throughout the system.

Precast inlets and catch basins serve as critical access points within drainage networks, helping capture runoff, improve system functionality, and support long-term maintenance access. Their design, placement, and durability can significantly influence overall system performance.

As communities continue investing in resilient infrastructure, attention to every component of the drainage system matters.

Hurricane season is a reminder that infrastructure resilience starts underground.

Recent recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene continue to highlight the importance of durable stormwater infrastructure capable of performing during extreme weather events and remaining reliable long after the storm has passed. At the same time, preparedness messaging from organizations such as NOAA forecasting and FEMA continues to emphasize the growing need for resilient infrastructure as communities face increasing flooding risks and aging drainage systems.

That is why reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) remains a trusted solution for stormwater infrastructure.

Rinker Materials reinforced concrete pipe and precast concrete box culvert solutions are engineered for long-term durability, hydraulic performance, and structural strength under demanding field conditions. Designed to withstand heavy loads, high-flow conditions, and harsh environmental exposure, these systems provide the reliability communities depend on during severe weather events.

Concrete pipe has proven itself for generations as one of the most resilient and longest-lasting infrastructure materials available, capable of performing under extreme hydraulic and environmental conditions while supporting long-term infrastructure resilience.

Happy National Infrastructure Week!

Rinker Materials was represented by John Susong, Bruce Spatz, and Craig Ramsey at the Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) Fly-In in Washington, D.C.

This event provided a valuable opportunity to meet with Representative Sharice Davids, Representative Dave Taylor, and Representative Tim Burchett to discuss the critical importance of strengthening America’s infrastructure and advancing policies that support long-term investment in our nation’s transportation systems.

The conversations focused on the role concrete plays in building the nation’s infrastructure and the importance of the roadway authorization and surface transportation reauthorization bill as a foundation for sustained infrastructure development across the country. Continued federal support is essential to ensuring safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure for communities nationwide. Concrete products help deliver durable infrastructure designed to withstand fire, flood, and other natural disasters. Unlike many alternative materials, concrete is non-combustible and plays a vital role in critical roadways, bridges, and emergency evacuation routes that communities depend on during times of crisis. These resilient solutions are essential to Building America Stronger.

These investments are about people, protecting families, improving safety, and ensuring that every community has access to dependable roads and infrastructure during both everyday use and emergency situations.

It was an honor to advocate for the concrete and transportation construction industries and to reinforce the importance of infrastructure investment that supports economic growth, public safety, and national resilience.

We appreciate the opportunity to engage in these important discussions and remain committed to supporting policies that strengthen America’s infrastructure for generations to come.

Rinker Materials played a key role in the largest public works infrastructure project in Nevada history. Project NEON upgraded a 3.7-mile stretch of I-15 to improve safety, traffic flow, and flood mitigation in the Las Vegas Valley.

Using reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and mega reinforced concrete box culverts (MRCB) with custom fittings, our durable precast components handled massive stormwater volumes, protecting streets and highways from flash floods. Rinker’s locally produced precast culverts allowed the project to stay on schedule, minimized traffic closures, and supported complex S-shaped layouts.

With 63 lane miles paved, 29 bridges built, and over 10 miles of drainage improvements, Project NEON set a new benchmark in design-build infrastructure. The project earned Top Road Construction Project by Roads & Bridges magazine (2019) and the American Concrete Pipe Association Project Achievement Award.

Rinker Materials continues to deliver resilient solutions for high-impact infrastructure projects.

What is one of the hardest-working parts of a city that most people never see? The infrastructure beneath our feet.

From storm sewers and culverts to sanitary sewer systems, Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) plays a major role in keeping communities safe, clean, and functioning every day. It helps manage stormwater, reduce flooding, move wastewater, and support roadways and site development.

Built to handle heavy traffic loads, harsh weather, and large volumes of water, RCP is trusted because of its strength, reliability, and proven lifespan of more than 100 years. In fact, some concrete pipe systems installed in the 1800s are still in use today.

At Rinker Materials, we know strong infrastructure starts underground. That is why we are proud to provide durable, long-lasting solutions that help build stronger communities for generations to come.
