There are several different ways to dig a trench. However, the most effective way is always some form of teamwork with more than one crew member.

Sometimes our excavators and other heavy equipment are the primary tools of this phase. Other times when we are near the foundation, we will only use manual digging to ensure we are being as careful as possible in high risk areas.

In this case we were doing a little of both. Our foreman operating the machine, while at least one or two guys follow the boom from a safe distance to help with manual refinement, removal of roots and provide a softer, yet diligent touch.

The excavation phase is the most important, this is what separates most drainage systems from those installed by professionals. Don’t take the risk of doing it wrong, call Flood Mitigators today for your FREE flood risk assessment.

Sump pump replacement complete! This started off as a regular maintenance service call, however due to a blown motor and lack of functionality, we had to replace the entire pump. Notice we switched it out for a new one of the same performance capacity (1/2 HP) to ensure the best results. Remember that it’s important to not have an undersized or oversized pump for maximum efficiency. If you need any expertise with sump pump, reach out to us for your FREE assessment!

Out with the old sump pump (left) and in with the new (right). This customer’s pump had been operating just fine for a few years until it recently malfunctioned due to excess debris and obstructions in the discharge pipe.

It’s important to remember sump pumps are designed to displace water ONLY. This means keeping the areas as clear from debris that could fall into the discharge line and clog it. We generally recommend a maintenance clean out every 6 months or every quarter for areas where such obstructions might be more abundant. Taking care of your drainage system is the first step in long lasting results.

SIZE MATTERS. The size of the trench your drainage system is installed in greatly impacts the overall performance and reliability as the years go by. The larger and deeper the trench, the more filtration is possible to allow only water to get to the pipes.

Our team often finds improperly installed systems with narrow and shallow trenches which did not bode well in the long term. A smaller trench leads to collapsed pipe, standing water, and sediment buildup. Having a trench so large means ensuring every obstruction, including roots, stumps, old pipe, rocks, and anything else in our path is carefully and completely removed.

To ensure the system lives up to expectations of defending your home, it is important not to compromise on any details. The quality of work and results delivered of the system pays for itself several orders of magnitude over the cost of implementation.

Measure twice, cut once. Something so simple that can easily be missed during the stress of a project. Our crew understands the importance of slowing down to speed up.

Here we are cutting into a recently poured driveway to make room for a new channel drain. Very tedious and laborious work, but it’s all worth it to solve our customer’s drainage issues!

03/18/2025

Our team NEVER uses heavy machinery when excavating near the foundation. We find most trenching equipment to be too destructive, such that the potential savings do not outweigh the overall risk of use. This project has the gas, electrical, fiber optic, and water line all located on one side. We focus on making sure we progress through this steadily yet carefully.

We would rather move cautiously through sensitive areas by hand digging and taking our time to ensure a gentle touch for the best overall results.

This demands more man hours.
This demands more detail attention.
This demands us slow down to go fast

The long-lasting and persistent results we achieve for our customers makes this painstaking process worth all the trouble.

Flood Mitigators never cuts corners or compromises on overall performances!

Every root must come out! It’s important to remember every obstruction creates unnecessary challenges for water to exit properly.

This is why our team spends a great bit of time and diligence to make sure any and all obstructions to our pipe is completely removed. This will ensure the path for water to exit is uninterrupted, consistent and reliable throughout our client’s property. Our team never compromises on any of these crucial details!

03/17/2025

This new week marks the start of a new project for our crew. We are quickly making progress exposing the entirety of the foundation slab, as well as locating and displacing the existing drainage pipe which we will be replacing with the new and improved system.

Stay tuned for ongoing progress!
