36...

My favorite number.

The number I wore on the football field.
The number tied to some of my biggest plays.
The number that taught me grit, discipline, toughness, and resilience.

In reflection, it was never really about the jersey.

I had to become the best version of me at the time to embody that number.

The sacrifices.
The pressure.
The determination.
The ability to keep showing up when things got hard.

36 is the mindset that carried me into this next chapter of life.

Today hit different for a birthday.

I spent my birthday surrounded by founders, VPs, CEOs, innovators, and leaders at Insurance Innovators 2026… and for the first time in a long time, I truly stopped focusing on where I’m not and started appreciating how far I’ve come.

People were asking for my thoughts.
Wanting to connect further.
Talking consulting opportunities.
Discussing future conferences.

It reminded me of something important:

The playmaker mentality never left.

It just evolved.

At 36, I’m shifting to the strongest version of myself yet not just physically, but mentally, professionally, spiritually, and as a leader.

This year, I'm not proving to anyone that I belong.

Im showing them who I was built to be.

The new and improved Corey.

Still a playmaker.
Just in a different arena now.

I used to think resting meant falling behind.

I was wrong. And I cannot wait to talk about it.

Leadership in a nutshell.

We so often want results instantly from whoever the people and spaces we lead.

I'm not saying don't push. Quite often a misconception of not pushing people to the max every day leads to this idea that you may not care.

I chose this picture because it's the perfect example of what can happen. The chicken on the left is cooked at 900 degrees. It checks a box though. Its done, on the outside. On the inside, I can promise you it's probably still raw or severely inedible at best.

The chicken on the left took a couple hours more but its also done. That chicken looks better on the outside in presentation. Its also edible and likely very good tasting. Its also something you can replicate. Noone will want to ever eat the chicken on the left.

Think about that next time you approach your team with a task. Do you want the one on left to check a box or do you want the one on the right that came out good and you now have a correct, repeatable outcome
