Texas Weather Alert ⚠️ | Safety Tips for This Weekend

With the sudden temperature drop and unpredictable weather hitting Houston and much of Texas this weekend, now is the time to prepare not react. From a contractor’s perspective, here are a few key things homeowners, property owners, and businesses should keep an eye on:

1️⃣ Protect Your Pipes

• Insulate exposed pipes (especially exterior walls, garages, and crawl spaces)
• Let faucets drip slightly overnight during freezing temps
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is just in case

2️⃣ HVAC & Heating Check

• Replace filters and make sure your system isn’t overworking
• Avoid using unsafe space heaters (keep them away from flammable materials)
• If heat goes out, call early service demand spikes fast during cold snaps

3️⃣ Roofs, Gutters & Drainage

• Clear debris from gutters to prevent ice dams and water backup
• Check for loose shingles or flashing cold + wind exposes weak points
• Interior ceiling stains = address immediately before they worsen

4️⃣ Power & Electrical Awareness

• Avoid overloading circuits with heaters or extension cords
• Keep flashlights and backup batteries ready
• If power goes out, don’t DIY electrical fixes wait for professionals

5️⃣ Jobsite & Property Safety

• Wet or frozen surfaces = slip hazards
• Secure loose materials, fencing, and equipment
• Delay non-essential exterior work until conditions stabilize

Twenty-three+ years ago Premier Remodeling was born. After a 27 year career in the oil & gas engineering business, I left the corporate life for the opportunity to run my own business in something I felt more passionate about.

It has been an adventure and one I am grateful for all the lessons learned, but more importantly the reward of giving our clients a remodeled home that they truly love. One such client once said "you not only remodeled their kitchen an bathroom, you changed the way we live!"

I am now handing over the reins and embarking on life as a retiree. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the clients and those trade contractors and vendors who were crucial to the growth and success of Premier Remodeling. It has been an honor.🙏

Residential construction has been experiencing inflationary forces since the onset of COVID due mostly to supply chain issues, but also tariffs on Canadian lumber tracing back prior to COVID.

These new tariffs will continue the upward trend for both new homes and renovation projects. Some have already been priced in to home pricing. Lumber futures are reflecting this upward pricing.
