Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho) and Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon) married on January 6, 1999, uniting two creators who reshaped entire genres. Fans often call them the power couple of anime because their influence reaches across both shonen and shojo storytelling.

Togashi became the architect of psychological, rule breaking shonen with Nen, morally complex characters, and arcs like Chimera Ant that changed the genre forever. Takeuchi revolutionized the magical girl genre with cosmic mythology, fashion driven design, and themes of empowerment that still shape anime today. She was even a licensed pharmacist before becoming a global icon.

Their universes quietly touch in ways many fans never notice.

🌙 Sailor Moon Easter Eggs
Takeuchi once drew a cameo of Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. Some of her later art shows sharper, more shonen influenced linework, a style she openly admired in Togashi’s work.

Togashi occasionally slips in Sailor Moon style chibi reactions, playful nods to his wife’s visual language. Fans also speculate that Bisky’s transformation is a subtle homage to magical girl aesthetics.

I’ve been obsessed with Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa for years and getting to see the real print in person at the Van Gogh Museum’s 2018 “Van Gogh & Japan” exhibition was one of those unforgettable art-nerd moments. Seeing it on loan was an amazing unforgettable experience!

The original print just made history too by selling for a record-breaking $2.8 million USD at auction! Probing how timeless Hokusai’s work really is.

And now because of Ben I get to build the LEGO version and bring that iconic energy into our home. My wife loves it too by the way Ben 🙌
