This morning exhibiting artist Christina Forrer visited with students and Lisa Lapinski’s introduction to sculpture class. The night before Forrer was part of a discussion with Rice professor emeritus Klaus Weissenberger on the magic of fairytales, for the Moody’s Artists-in-Dialogue series.
This is just one example of how the Moody and the Student Collab creates opportunities for Rice faculty, students, and the public to engage with artists from Houston and beyond!

Over the last two weekends has worked with Rice students to explore the theme of human migration and the technical aspects of her forthcoming installation, “Swarm Migration.”

Students were able to see the Moody Makerspace in action as the 3D printer made multiple “wishbones,” which will be suspended in the hundreds as a part of the installation.

Next Saturday Feb.11 students will have another opportunity to help install the artwork. On Feb.15 they can also celebrate its completion at the opening reception!

“Swarm Migration” and the student centered programming is the latest iteration of the Moody Project Wall.

(.d.zhao we see you!)

On Wednesday, February 15, from 6 - 8 p.m. celebrate the opening of the newest iteration of the Moody Project Wall, "Swarm Migration," a site-specific installation created by Houston-based artist Bennie Flores Ansell in collaboration with Rice students.

Assembled in a pattern evoking birds in flight, hundreds of small ceramic and 3D-printed "wishbones" comprise the installation, which alludes to the experience of human migration.

Join the Moody, Flores Ansell, and special guest speakers artist Matt Manalo, Rice alumna and artist Rachel Gonzales, and Rice student Marc Armena.

Register for the event, and read more about the work and the artist via our bio.

Did you know that the Moody has students on staff as a part of our technical crew? Not only that, we routinely work with student for various productions. For the performance of Suzanne Bocanegra’s “Honor,” students were able to work with professionals in directing, acting, technical production, and musical arrangement. The Moody is the only city in Texas to host this amazing production starring Lili Taylor. After debuting at the Met, showing at MoMA and a performance at MOCA (and at the Moody), the show will be hosted by the ICA Boston.
