Miss Maxine did it again!

Library super patron Maxine Dickerson competed in several field events at the Arkansas Senior Olympics this past weekend. She won:
1st place 🥇 in the hammer throw and shot put
2nd place🥈 in the javelin
3rd place 🥉 in the discus and the 50-meter track run!!

Help us wish her luck as she attends the National Senior Games, to be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the summer of 2027!

If you frequent the Library, there's a good chance you've gotten a big smile from Miss Maxine. She passes out origami hearts in the lobby on Valentine's Day and often attends many of our special programs.

New featured finds from our Friends of the Garland County Library's Back Corner Bookshop.

When's the last time you visited the Friends' used book room? The volunteers stock the sale room every Monday and Thursday, so the inventory is always changing. Come by and buy with cash or card.

• Pumpkin Decorating Contest - entries are accepted from 10/1 thru 10/29. Patrons of any age can enter their pumpkins for the chance to win gift cards to Hobby Lobby.

• Pet Photo Contest - entries are accepted from 10/1 thru 10/31. Voting will take place on 11/3 and winners will be chosen from "Dog" "Cat" and "Other" categories.

• Spooky Story Contest (ages 8-18) - Kids and teens are welcome to enter in their spookiest stories from 10/1-10/24 - winners will be announced on 10/31

• Our Fall Book Walk is still live in the GCL Community Garden! Swing by soon to read "The Ugly Pumpkin" as you take a stroll.

• Spooky Silent Disco (for ages 18+) - MUST REGISTER - A "silent disco" is a unique experience where the music is broadcasted to wireless headphones instead of traditional speakers.

• Pop-Up Crossword Puzzle Competition (ages 18+) - Cruciverbalists everywhere are invited to compete for prizes in another GCL Pop-Up crossword puzzle competition!

• Trivia: Horror Films (ages 18+) - Challenge your horror knowledge with your friends at Wednesday Trivia! Come as an individual or as a team to compete for the chance to win prizes (and bragging rights.) We'll see you there... if you dare.

• Making Marionettes (ages 18+) - MUST REGISTER - Looking for a whimsical & unique new hobby? Or simply want to create a spooky craft to entertain your Halloween house guests? Join our Marionette Making class!

Here's another North Branch update! Just look at that new roof! No wet books for us.

The North Branch is located outside the HSV gates at 2050 N HWY 7. As things progress, we'll dial in a more specific grand opening date, but right now we're aiming to be fully stocked and operational by summer 2027.
