Narcissistic abuse destroys innocent lives. STARs are Survivors of Toxic Abusive Relationships. Together we can help you heal and grow.

Every relationship has hard seasons. Not every hard relationship is harmful.
Sometimes the hardest part is finding the words for what you're living through. So this Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we're naming it.
A Toxic Abusive Relationship (TAR™) isn't one bad day or one big fight. It's an ongoing pattern where one person uses control, fear, or manipulation to keep power over the other.
In a hard relationship, conflict is about the problem. In a harmful one, it's about control. Swipe through to see the difference, along with the quieter signs that are easy to miss.
If you're not sure which one you're in, that confusion is not a failure on your part. It's often part of the fog. Your feelings are information, and they deserve to be taken seriously.
Save this post, or share it with someone who needs the words for what they're living through.
Trauma ends where connection begins.
Stay Gold.

Monday reminder: recovery is not a straight line.
Maybe the weekend was heavy. Maybe an old memory, a familiar tone of voice, or a quiet Sunday evening pulled you back into the fog for a while.
That doesn't erase how far you've come.
Healing after a toxic or abusive relationship moves in waves. Some days feel clear. Some days feel like starting over. Both belong to the same recovery, and neither one defines you.
So if today you're simply getting up and trying again, that counts. That's what coming out of the fog and into the light looks like, one ordinary Monday at a time.
This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, a good reminder that your mental health matters most on the days it feels hardest to carry.
If this week feels heavy, you don't have to navigate it alone. TAR Anon® meets you where you are (link in the first comment).
Trauma ends where connection begins.
Stay Gold.

When someone shows you who they are, believe what you’re seeing.
You can’t love someone into becoming safer.
You can’t explain them into becoming kinder.
And you shouldn’t have to keep repainting what keeps hurting you.
Sometimes healing begins when you stop focusing on their potential, and start accepting the pattern.
What “true color” did you keep trying to explain away? 💗

You can’t pour from an empty cup, but filling it doesn’t have to look dramatic. ❤️
Sometimes it’s rest. Sometimes it’s movement, creativity, quiet, connection, nourishment, or just checking in with yourself.
The goal isn’t to do all of it perfectly. It’s to notice what you’re running low on and give yourself a little more of that.
What does your cup need today?
“didn’t even bother me” 🤡
Breakups are hard. Give yourself time to heal. I know it’s hard, try to look at it like redirection toward something right for you
And if they’re really your person, they’ll make their way back into your life at the right time ✨

Often, the first person a survivor opens up to isn't a professional. It's a friend, a sister, a coworker. How that conversation goes can make a real difference.
If someone you love might be in a toxic or abusive relationship, here's how to show up for them:
1. Believe them. You don't need proof to take them seriously.
2. Listen without judgment. Skip "Why don't you just leave?" Leaving is rarely simple.
3. Let them lead, at their pace. Pressure, even with the best intentions, can push them away. Their choices are theirs.
4. Stay close. Abuse often thrives on isolation, so keep checking in and keep inviting them, even if they say no.
5. Point them to support, gently. Share resources when they're ready, and remind them they're not alone.
You don't have to fix it. You just have to stay.
Save this, or share it with someone who might need it today.
Trauma ends where connection begins.
Stay Gold.

“Love is so short, forgetting is so long.” — Pablo Neruda ❤️🩹
Some people leave long before the feelings do. Healing has its own timeline, and sometimes the heart takes a little longer to catch up.
A beautiful reminder from Neruda that love can end in a moment, while letting go can take much longer.
Quote by Pablo Neruda, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair (Poem 20).

October begins today, and with it, Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This year's national theme is "With Survivors, Always." It's a promise we try to keep every day: to believe survivors, to make space for their stories without judgment, and to remind anyone living through or healing from a toxic abusive relationship that they are not alone.
Today we're wearing purple, the color of domestic violence awareness, as a quiet sign of solidarity. If you'd like to join us, wear something purple and tag us in your photo. A scarf, a ribbon, a pair of socks; every bit of purple says "I see you."
And if this month stirs something up for you, please be gentle with yourself. Healing doesn't happen on a schedule, and it doesn't have to happen alone. Our free, online TAR Anon® meetings are open all year round, and listening with your camera off is always welcome. Find a meeting at the link in the first comment.

Missing them? Cute. 😭
Go ahead and open those old screenshots. Read the paragraphs. Revisit the audacity. Refresh your memory.
Nostalgia has a funny way of deleting the evidence. 📱💀
You’re welcome.

Today is International Recovery Day, and with it, September comes to a close.
This was a month of tender, important conversations. During Su***de Prevention Month, we talked about reaching out, checking in, and making it a little easier to say "I'm not okay." We paused to remember 25 years since September 11, holding space for everyone who still carries that day with them. And throughout Recovery Month, we honored every path of healing, because recovery is recovery, and every step counts.
None of this ends when the month does. Reaching out still matters on October 1st, and every day after. Recovery is a lifelong journey, not a finish line.
Tomorrow, a new month begins. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we'll be here all month with gentle, practical support: what a Toxic Abusive Relationship really is, how the TAR Anon Steps and Promises can light the way forward, and a quiet moment together for World Mental Health Day. We'll begin tomorrow by wearing purple, and we hope you'll join us.
If you're still in the fog, you're not late. If you're somewhere in the middle, keep going. And if you've found your light, thank you for helping others find theirs.
You don't have to navigate life after abuse alone. Our free, online TAR Anon® meetings are open all year round, and listening with your camera off is always welcome.
