I’m a mess! This past week’s prompt were all about imperfections in all their glory! There is beauty in our flaws. Tangled yarn, cracked eggs, mismatched socks & spilled paint.

Look at the stars…look how they shine for you!
This week I created a collection of celestial designs with coordinating patterns. A big part of the challenge is putting the designs into a repeating pattern and using colors that play well together. I uploaded these designs to Spoonflower to get an idea what the repeats look like on real surfaces, like bedding, pillows and wallpaper.

The prompt was ”overlapping lines” so decided to keep it simple!

Happy Saturday. This past week all my prompts had to do with things that have boo-boos. Starting with bandaid. We use them when we get a cut but even they have issues…like when they get stuck together and you can’t get them apart…oooops!

A special prompt challenge...the majestic allium! After seeing nearly perfect allium blooms, my friend at Petals and Posies suggested that I add them to my daily drawing challenge! I’ve always thought Alliums were such fun and dramatic blooms and wanted to create an illustration that pays homage to these deep-purple drama queens.

This month’s prompts are called “oopsies”…the challenges include drawing quickly, or with my eyes closed or with my non- dominant hand. Other prompts include drawing something from random shapes and making them into something recognizable or objects that are broken or imperfect. I admit its hard for me to practice this way. Decades of working as a graphics and textile designer with crazy deadlines ruined the “loose style” out of me and I seem to always need to “finish” the work, even if I don’t spend much time working on them. But I’ll keep trying, I really like loose, sketchy illustrations.
1. Draw breakfast in 5 minutes
2. Draw a houseplant with my non-dominant hand
3. “” Melted Ice Cream
4. “” Blob Birds
5. “” Broken Teacup (inspired by the ancient art of Kintsugi)
6. “” A face using one line
7. “” A cat with my eyes closed
8. “” Stick people dance party (includes my process video)

Here’s is a fun compilation of my drawing prompts through May. I had a great time
with all of them but really enjoyed the last week. June brings a new series of prompts but they will be fast and furious with lots of oopsies! But that is the theme for June, spontaneous creation, so things may get a little messy.

Happy Subday Morning! Here is my last prompt for the Month…Lily pads in a pond. Inspired again by recent visit to the botanical gardens at University of Michigan . I’ve included the pic I took and used for inspiration for my illustration. Check out these gorgeous lily pads!

Today’s prompt was vegetable 🪏 garden. I’ve included a quick replay of my drawing process and you can see how I make changes as I go while I am brainstorming what to do to improve my illustration.

TGIF! Today‘s prompt was “Cactus in the Desert”. I was inspired by my recent trip to the botanical garden cacti exhibit.
