Thank you to the family who took this amazing shot of my daughter and I attempting to ride a camel in Morocco. Enticing a four year old to get on a camel with sand flying in her face, not so easy! Nonetheless, our 2019 family backpacking Europe and Morocco so worth it!

Haldi ceremony, a ritual holy bath tradition celebrated the day before the wedding. Family members of the bride and groom gather to bless the newly weds through using turmeric (Haldi) on the face and body.

A small, local wedding I photographed a few months ago.

Before quarantine effected all of us I started a personal photography project featuring mothers but most importantly the women behind motherhood. I named the project “Show Your Roots” because I wanted to focus on authenticity in every women’s story. What’s her heritage, what’s her past, what are her goals, what drives her? Who is a mother as a whole and what do you want the world to see as versus how the world has painted you? Let’s give her a voice, let’s show her roots.

“My name is Aisha Michael and I’m an artist, advocate and mother to a super-hero. I call my son a super-hero because of his uniqueness. EJ was diagnosed with Autism when he was one year old, now being four we still face some difficulties but also a lot of progress and with that I am so blessed. I am one proud mama and will always be his number 1 advocate with anything coming his way. Our family heritage is a mixture of many places. My mother was born in Florida but moved to Africa at a very young age. My family lived in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana and she moved to Washington, DC for college. My father is from and still lives in Saint Vincent. EJ’s father family is from Haiti, so EJ has a mixture of two Caribbean island. As EJ gets older I’m going to make sure he knows all parts of the many cultures within our family and to know the true history of Africa because that’s where our roots started. A favorite quote, simple but honest “get out of yourself”. No matter how rough life gets there’s someone else that could be doing worse. I find laughter helps me get out of the self loathing mindset. Live, love, laugh.

Oh hey girl, a big shout out to this momma & owner of aka . The last few weeks in Hawaii I was blessed to spend with her in Oahu. She’s really an inspiration watching her run a successful swim company, a mother of 3 (4th otw) and so down to earth! You’re beautiful in every girl!

Before Photography, I did performing art, specifically dance. It was such an honor and so very inspiring to photograph for Kona Dance and Performing Arts . I literally was so hyped at this show lol these kids are so very talented and inspiring to watch to say the least. 💕
