Lighting is one of the most important elements in refreshing a space. The advent of LED lighting not only provides better functional light for high task areas (and great energy efficiency) but also offers a plethora of shapes and designs to create interest.

In this kitchen remodel we utilized an oversized fixture to illuminate the large kitchen island, without adding weight or heaviness from above. A more playful fixture above the kitchen table coordinates looks without being overly 'matching'.

Urban Lights helped source the fixtures - I love their extensive showroom. The ability to get up close and personal with a wide variety of fixtures helps you see firsthand how a light may look in your home, in terms of size, brightness and color temperature.

High Point Market, which takes place in the Spring and Fall, is the pinnacle of trade shows to see what's up and coming in the furniture end of the business.
Attached is a great article outlining the top trends seen at the recent fall show.
Moving away from the austerity of modern farmhouse, there appears to be a trend toward more playful shapes and layers of texture. Watch for fluting, art deco inspired arches and pleats.

Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have revealed their 2022 Colors of the Year, selecting 'Evergreen Fog' and ' October Mist' respectively. These picks are right in line with other brands' predictions for 2022 and this kind of wide-ranging agreement is pretty rare, spawning a belief that green may be the new gray.

Here's how the paint companies describe their colors:
- a regenerative touch
- pairs well with natural textures and textiles, deep black shades and metals like champagne gold or warm brass
- a gently shaded sage that quietly anchors while encouraging creative expression through color

Time will tell how these colors ebb and flow in popularity. Do you agree with their picks or have your own colors in mind for the upcoming year?

Finding the correct size and scale of furnishings is just as important as selecting the look and style. Not only to maintain the balance in a room but also the functionality.

Sharing another recent project - updated a master bath for a master gardener. To create a calming space we used an abstract leaf motif in the shower, kept the color palette light and airy and included a soaking tub to relax after a day of wrangling plants.
