Pearl update (ignore the stall I was adding fresh bedding and had stripped the stall). Today I am as able to walk up and halter her in the stall with no issue. She picked her foot up and let me put it in the soaking boot. It’s still pretty sore but the abscess did start draining. She even let me rewrap her foot and put a bandage and hoof boot over it with no issue.

She is now taking treats gently and learning to let her guard down. She knows I’m not going to hurt her but occasionally she will try to bluff me saying she will nip but doesn’t follow through.

She has made huge leaps since March, especially considering that I have been down since May with my knee replacement. She has such a kind eye and when I leave her for the night she stares at me with her ears forward. I was able to wipe her down with a towel with fly spray on it tonight to help her with flies. She has been a little touchy up until now. I was even able to touch her back legs and get fly spray on them.

Now she just has to heal this abscess and release the hostage

Spent the night watching the cameras waiting for this mare have that baby. She has dropped so low she can’t drop anymore and was giving some signs she was going to deliver, but nothing.

Who wants to come do hostage negotiations so that I can sleep tonight? Lol

We are officially on foal watch! The baby has dropped and Pearls udders are super full. Cameras are up and I’m going to get some straw to bed her with today.

In other news I was able to halter her easily today with just a rope around her neck. This is a first. I was feeding her treats before that but still.

My mother came out to visit her and was able to get up close, pet her and give her some treats. She would turn her back to Pearl and she would gently nudge her or blow hot air on her back. She has a lot of horse experience and knows what she is doing. Pearl warmed up to her and then pinned her ears when I approached the stall! (I reminded her I feed her). My mother thinks she could drop that foal at any moment, and she spent years delivering foals. We are definitely at the end of this pregnancy and can’t wait to meet her foal!!!

Genesis is Pearls bff and hasn’t left her side! But she did get very jealous Pearl was getting her attention lol.

Foaling barn cameras are up so that we can watch Pearl as she gets closer to foaling.

Just some pics from today.

Pearl had her vet visit and was a super good girl. She allowed our amazing vet (pretty sure she has magic powers with these horses) to look at her foot without sedation. We think she has a hoof abscess that just isn’t ready to pop yet. We will be giving her pain meds to help for a couple days.

She also got her pre-foal vaccines. And Dr said we are definitely on foal watch the next couple weeks. I now have her in the foaling barn with cameras on her so I can watch her. Her udders are huge and she looks like she has dropped a lot.

She was so stinking good today, even took treats from our hands. We also were able to get fly boots on her to keep her from stomping on that sore foot. This should help her feel lor comfortable took. Also got her mane braided.

This mare has really come a long way since coming here. Can’t wait to see her baby very soon
