China Replacements

The thief on the cross had no time left.
Nails had already been driven through his hands.
No time to fix his past.
No time to prove he was a good person.
No time for religious performance.

He simply turned his head.
“Jesus, remember me.”

And Christ answered:

“Today you will be with me in paradise.” — Luke 23:43

The thief didn't earn that promise.
He simply received it.

Charles Spurgeon understood this tension deeply:

“We are not saved by obedience, for obedience is the result of salvation; we are saved by faith because faith leads us to obey.”

We often get this backwards.

We carry the quiet fear: What if I’m still not enough?
So we strive.
We perform.
We try to earn from God what can only be received from Him.

But real obedience does not grow from terror.
It grows from transformation.

Obedience is the fruit.
Grace is the root.

A heart truly changed by grace begins to desire the One who saved it.
Not to earn His love.
But because it has finally found it.

Jesus offers rest before performance.
Mercy before perfection.
Grace before striving.

The thief on the cross found that out in his final hours.
The question is whether we can discover it right now.
