🚒 It's Back! Help Rescue Our Firefighter from the Roof! 🚒

Our 2nd Annual Rescue the Firefighter on the Roof fundraiser is coming to High Ridge McDonald's!

On Saturday, August 22, one of our High Ridge firefighters will once again be stationed on the roof—and the only way to get him down is with your donations!
From 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, High Ridge Firefighters and the McDonald's Street Team will be collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Every dollar helps support individuals and families living with muscular dystrophy while funding research and life-changing programs.

• Wear a life jacket.
• Watch for debris and changing conditions.
• Never go alone.
• Keep a constant eye on children.

🚒 Congratulations to Lead Engineer Sam Hart!

Congratulations to Sam Hart on his promotion to Lead Engineer with the High Ridge Fire District.

Sam joined the District in 2018, was hired full-time in 2020, and was promoted to Lead Engineer this past April.

The Lead Engineer position is one step below Captain and is responsible for stepping into the officer role to lead an engine company and firehouse when needed.

Congratulations, Sam, and thank you for your continued dedication to the High Ridge Fire District and the community we serve.

🚒 Extreme Heat Safety

High temperatures can become dangerous quickly. Protect yourself and your family with these simple safety tips:
• Stay hydrated.
• Avoid peak heat.
• Wear light clothing.
• Check on neighbors.
• Watch for heat illness.

Heat Cramps: Muscle cramps in the arms, legs, or stomach may be an early sign of heat illness. Move to a cool place and drink water or a sports drink.

Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and muscle cramps are warning signs of heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, drink fluids, and seek medical attention if symptoms don't improve.

🎆 Fireworks Season is Here! 🎆

It's that time of year for family gatherings, celebrations, and fireworks. As the excitement builds, we want to help educate the kiddos in our community on how to stay safe while enjoying the festivities.

Take a few minutes to share these important fireworks safety tips with the little ones in your life:
✅ Let adults handle fireworks
✅ Stay a safe distance away from fireworks after they're lit
✅ Never pick up fireworks that didn't go off
✅ Ask for glow sticks instead of sparklers whenever possible (sparklers can burn at over 1,000°F!)
✅ Always listen to parents or guardians during fireworks displays

🚦 Look both ways before you cross the street.

It's something most of us were taught as kids when walking, but it's a good rule of thumb for driving, too.

We all know too well how many accidents happen along Highway 30 and at busy intersections throughout our community. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 1,086 people were killed and more than 135,000 were injured in crashes involving red-light running in 2023, nationwide. Many of those injured or killed had the right of way.

That's why we want to offer a simple safety reminder, especially for new and young drivers. When the light turns green, take a moment. Look both ways and make sure traffic is stopping before proceeding through the intersection.
A few extra seconds can make a big difference.

🚒 Being prepared starts long before the call comes in. At High Ridge Fire District, our crews work 48-hour shifts, and every shift begins with detailed truck and equipment checks to ensure everything is ready when seconds matter most. From pumps, lights, and hydraulic units to breathing apparatus and battery-powered rescue tools, every piece of equipment is inspected, tested, and logged for operational readiness.

These daily checks not only help ensure our tools function properly, but also keep our firefighters familiar with every piece of equipment on the truck so they can respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency. Preparation, training, and teamwork help us stay ready to serve our community 24/7. 🔥🛠️
