Just a quick turn from the drying rack. Cedar Elm 8¼ x 3¼. Finished in wood conditioner, beeswax, and mineral oil. It's food safe! The hole in the side is just for decoration. Caution: If purchased for cereal and used as a cereal bowl, it will void the warranty.

Which on is your favorite?
The Ash feather plate?
The end of the rainbow, with 3 feet?
The Mesquite bowl w/flutes?

It's been a productive day. Three were finished, but how do you choose a favorite among your children?

I have a favorite, do you?

I've been trying to think outside the proverbial box. ie: round and brown. I wouldn't mind a little feedback on these two new box designs.

The flat top box - 4" x 2½" made from Pear and Birch, carved, burnt, tinted, and waxed. If you look close you can see some texture under the lid.

Urn box - 6" x 2¼" made of Mesquite and Ash, carved and colored black.

Hope you like them.

Lemons into lemonade. The feathering of this small Ash crotch was too pretty to give up on. While using the Beall system, the buffing wheel grabbed the rim and pulled it out of my hands into the lathe. RPM about 2000. The small pieces flew off the others I cut off, trying to salvage this turn. I think it came out well.
Ash 1" x 5¼"
Carved rim, finished in sanding sealer and wax, then Beall buffed.

I've held this feathered crotch piece for many years. Since we're moving soon it needs a turn. So, here is a beautiful twig pot. If you have to have it, send me a message. Nature is the greatest artist!

I'm trying to get better pictures out of my phone and myself. Check these out and let me know what you think.

Striving for a thin consistent width is a way to hone your skills. Unfortunately, they will never have the strength to be a functional piece. But, ART!! YES, PERFECT FOR ART PIECE! Know what you're turning before you start. Function or fun.

Birch Sunhat Box, my first. Hopefully, the proportions are pleasing to the eye. I think it turned out very well. The lid is just the right amount of fit. Stays on upside-down and pops when you take it off. Finished in wax and the Beall Buffing System.
2½" x 2½"

Small closed rim Hackberry bowl with void. Had a lot of fun turning this one. 5" x 2½" finished only with walnut oil.

While not "perfect, " I think it would be perfectly at home atop any 4 post bed. Skew practice.
