Such a sad loss for our community!

Today, the Hatfield Elementary School community mourns the loss of our dear friend, Jane Yolen.

For more than 40 years, Jane inspired generations of Hatfield students through the Jane Yolen Writing Contest, encouraging young writers to find their voices, share their stories, and discover the power of imagination. Her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering support of children and literacy made a lasting impact on our school and community.

Jane's stories reached readers around the world, but we were especially fortunate to know her as a friend, mentor, and champion of our students. Her legacy lives on in the countless young writers she inspired and in the love of reading and writing she helped nurture.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable life.

Thank you, Jane, for the stories, the encouragement, and the joy you brought to generations of Hatfield children. Your words and your spirit will live on forever.
