From client conversations in Italy to a historic Olympic moment — then straight to EuroShop in Düsseldorf.
Different stages. Same mindset: show up, stay curious, stay close to what’s shaping what’s next.

Not every business trip includes a gold medal game.
Michael Mikyska was in Italy earlier this week for a client meeting — and had the chance to attend the Olympic final where Team USA brought home its first men’s hockey gold since 1980.
From there, it was on to Düsseldorf for EuroShop, the world’s largest retail trade show, to explore the latest innovations shaping in-store environments across the globe.
We believe opportunity favors proximity.
Showing up — for clients, for industry events, for moments that matter — keeps us connected to where retail is going next.
And occasionally, it comes with a once-in-a-lifetime view.

By the time work gets underway, you already have a lot on your plate.
Plans are moving.
Timelines are set.
And not every detail is fully settled yet.
That’s pretty normal.
What often catches teams off guard isn’t that things change — it’s where the pressure shows up.
A decision that seemed small starts to affect something else.
An assumption touches more of the work than expected.
One adjustment creates friction somewhere else.
That doesn’t mean anything went wrong.
It’s just what happens when ideas, materials, and environments all start coming together.
That’s where experience helps most — knowing where pressure tends to surface, which questions are worth asking, and how to keep things moving when conditions change.

Programs like JA BizTown create something you don’t always get in a classroom — the chance for students to step into roles, make decisions, work through trade-offs, and see how choices play out.
It’s not about getting everything right. It’s about learning by doing.
Experiences like that tend to stick.
We’re grateful to support programs in our community that help students build confidence, judgment, and collaboration skills early.

Not every decision can be made right away.
Teams are balancing timelines, stakeholders, and information that’s still coming into focus. Leaving a few details open is often the only way to keep things moving.
What’s less obvious early on is how connected those decisions can be.
One small assumption touches more than expected.
One open question affects another.
It doesn’t feel risky at the time.
But once work begins, those connections show up quickly.
That’s where experience helps — understanding which details are likely to matter later and creating room to adjust when they do.

Earlier this year, we worked on a holiday décor install at a flagship retail location.
The opening date was set.
The location was high-visibility.
And there wasn’t much room for the timeline to move.
The dimensions for the materials were provided up front, so production moved ahead and the team headed into install.
Once on site, some of those dimensions didn’t quite match the space. What worked on paper didn’t fully translate in market — and with the launch date approaching, waiting wasn’t an option.
So the team adjusted.
Materials were reworked overnight based on what we saw during install, and the team returned the next day to finish the space the way it was intended.
Flexibility matters most once work is underway.
But it doesn’t appear out of nowhere.
Earlier conversations help determine how much room teams have once timelines start to tighten.

Most plans don’t change because teams did something wrong.
They change because reality does.
Budgets get adjusted.
Timelines move up (rarely back).
And outside factors have a way of showing up at the worst possible time.
That’s not a failure of planning—it’s just how ex*****on works.
What matters in those moments isn’t getting everything perfect. It’s how teams pause, reassess, and make smart adjustments without creating unnecessary cost or disruption.
Those early conversations tend to matter most once timelines start to tighten—because they shape what options are still available when pressure is on.
That’s the reality of getting work done.

Budgets don’t remove flexibility.
They just make the timing matter more.
Once budgets are approved, it’s tempting to think the hard decisions are behind us. Anyone who’s lived through ex*****on knows that’s usually when things get interesting.
Details surface.
Timelines tighten.
Plans adjust.
Early conversations create options. Later ones require quicker decisions and tougher trade-offs—but that’s just the reality of getting work done.
That’s where experience shows up: staying flexible, stepping up, and helping teams make it work when plans meet reality.

Many teams wait to involve partners until plans and budgets feel “final.”
And honestly, we get why.
📆Early planning can feel messy. Ideas are half-formed. Nothing feels ready for outside input yet.
But what we often see is this: By the time partners are brought in, ex*****on is already underway — and that’s when questions, constraints, and trade-offs surface.
Bringing partners into the conversation earlier isn’t about giving up control. It’s about getting perspective while there’s still room to adjust.
As the year ramps up, it’s worth asking:
Are we protecting the plan — or strengthening it? 💪
