The regrowth in Michaux Forest District following last year's fires is remarkable. Thanks to Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for showing us around and highlighting the Bureau of Forestry's great work over the weekend!

Congratulations, again, to ALL of our 2026 Good Citizenship Award recipients! As of last night, we presented 64 such awards to students in 32 schools across the district this year.

The Good Citizenship Award is offered to schools wishing to recognize students in their culminating year of elementary, middle or high school. Award recipients are selected by teachers and administrators for their outstanding scholarship, character, service, leadership, and acceptance of responsibility – in academics, extracurricular activities, and with family.

Hearing about each of these impressive students, presenting the awards, and celebrating their accomplishments was a tremendous joy. Thanks to all of the participating schools for inviting us to be part of your meaningful ceremonies and end-of-year traditions.

It was an honor to recognize Addison Buckman and Mike Gobrecht in the this week. Both received citations for their remarkable accomplishments in the sport of swimming.

Addison is the PIAA 3A State Champion in the girls 100-yard butterfly and the state bronze medalist in the 100-yard backstroke. In addition, she earned multiple district titles with the Cumberland Valley School District Eagles and set 2 PIAA District 3 Records this season.

Coach Mike Gobrecht was recognized for his outstanding leadership at the West Shore YMCA. He served as the Director of Competitive Swimming at WSY Swimming of Central Pennsylvania from 1990 until his retirement in April. Over his 36-year tenure, he expertly developed athletes, helping them to achieve their fullest potential--with some becoming Olympic Trials qualifiers and Division I swimmers. He made the program into a national powerhouse.

Congratulations, again!

Pennsylvania’s housing shortage is driving up costs for both renters and homebuyers, making the goal of homeownership unaffordable for many. The Senate acted to help alleviate this shortage by approving three bills to expand access to housing while preserving local control. I thank my collages for their work on this important issue and their unanimous support of my bill, Senate Bill 1281. Thanks to the Cumberland County, PA - Sheriff's Office for stopping by for a visit! I appreciated the opportunity to hear from them as well as to express my gratitude for all they do in our community.

In addition to their public safety duties, providing security to the courts and county property, executing orders of court, and issuing licenses, the office makes time to help parents, families, and children through education and safety-focused events. Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association

Please join me in congratulating Cumberland County’s newest Eagle Scout, Thomas Forestieri of Troop 168. I had the pleasure of celebrating this momentous achievement with his family, friends, and fellow scouts at Thomas's Court of Honor. If you're near St. Pat's in Carlisle, check out the outstanding work he did on the Resurrection Garden and statue!
