Mr. Bryan, Ms. Jen, and Ms. Karen returned to Brooklyn Park Middle School to present Who Polluted the Chesapeake and Oyster 101 to all the 6th grade classes.
The students were very excited to learn about oysters and the critical issues affecting their population in our local waterways. The students saw what animals live in and around a live oyster reef, viewed many artifacts related to oysters in our Bay, and ended the class by touching a freshly shucked oyster!
Thank you to Ms. Harding and the students at BPMS.

Ms. Jen & Mr. Bryan presented "The Chesapeake Bay & Climate Change" to an eager and interested group of adults at the ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ as part of their Adult Bay Awareness Series. It was wonderful to see the participants at the library engage so deeply while learning about climate change and its impact on our local waterways.
Additionally, Lauren Gygax from the Chesapeake Climate Action Network attended and shared the work that the CCAN does in AACo and Maryland. The library staff also displayed informative books related to the topic; visit your local AACPL branch to check them out.
We truly value these collaborations, as adult education provides a unique and vital opportunity for meaningful community connections. ๐ Programs like these strengthen our shared mission and reach a wider audience.

Ruby is a senior at Broadneck High School and will attend the University of Rhode Island in the fall. Through BHS's signature Environmental Literacy program, Ruby has had incredible opportunities to hone her environmental prowess. From securing funding to get and maintain a beehive, to founding and serving as president of her high school's Surfrider Foundation club, to being awarded the appropriately named Dolphin Award from her swim club for demonstrating leadership,
We are proud to back Ruby in her future environmental studies at URI and can't wait to see what she does with this opportunity.
We look forward to what you do with your future Ruby. Again congratulations on your scholarship, your upcoming graduation from Broadneck and your acceptance at University of Rhode Island. Keep up the great work!

Mr. Bryan, Ms. Jen, and Ms. Cathy returned to Bodkin Elementary to visit the 4th grade classes and present Oyster 101 and Who Polluted the Chesapeake.
It was a great visit and the students had much to share about what they knew of oysters and the Chesapeake Bay. We ended the class by looking at a tank of oysters and other animals like the feathered blenny (see the picture in the tank). Students also had the opportunity to see and touch the inside of an oyster.
Thanks Bodkin Elementary!

Mr. Bryan returned to Monarch Academy in Glen Burnie to present Plastic Pollution Solution to the 6th graders. The students were very engaged in the lesson as they learned how long trash takes to break down, what different materials (like plastics and metals) are made of and how those materials are produced. The students ended the lesson with a hands on activity where they acted as scientific data collectors, analyzing the different types of trash found in their "mini shoreline" sand boxes.
Thanks to Ms. Klindinst and all the Monarch 6th graders!

Ms. Jen, Ms. Cathy, Ms. Karen, and Mr. Bryan returned to Magothy River Middle School to present our Blue Crab 101 lesson.
The 7th graders were very knowledgeable and curious about the blue crab and its status in the Chesapeake Bay. They learned about many factors affecting the crab populations in the Bay and how we can help protect their environment. The classes concluded with an opportunity to touch a live blue crab!
Thanks Ms. McCallister and the staff and students at Magothy Middle.

Mr. Bryan and Ms. Cathy returned to Bodkin Elementary School for the annual Environmental Fair. Kids of all ages were excited to see all the great environmental activities and critters we brought.
From oyster tonging, to nautical knots, to kids getting to see an eel, touch a sleepy blue crab and oyster. Thank you to Bodkin Elementary for a great day and we look forward to seeing you all there next year!

Mr. Bryan & Ms. Jen had a great time with Bodkin Elementary School first graders! All four classes participated in our "Maryland Critters" program, allowing the students to connect to their current curriculum focusing on animal habitats.
These excited students learned about the incredible adaptations of several common Maryland animals and touched a live blue crab and oyster.
Thank you to Bodkin's green school lead, Kristen Duffy, for bringing CSH2O to 1st grade year after year! Go Bulldogs!

Mr. Bryan returned to South River High School for the finale of the Senior Capstone presentations. With over 300 students and parents in the auditorium for some special awards and feature presentations we then moved to breakout rooms for some additional senior presentations.
Mr. Bryan followed the environmental science tracks and saw presentations including: The Blue Crab Population Decline, The Effects of Roadway Noise Pollution on Wildlife, Varroa Mites and Bees, Houseplant Automation Improvements, and Operational and Sales Impact of Chesapeake Bay Seafood.
The students had nearly half a year to research, review and prepare their final presentations for their peers and their parents. They definitely brought their A game for a memorable evening covering a range of environmental subjects. Thanks South River High School!
