Pleas join us for an Open studio BBQ on Thursday April 23rd. From 6-8pm and meet our current Artist in Residence and learn more about her ongoing series of acrylic ink drawings, Portraits of Home, which engages with past and present residents of the cities of Detroit and Highland Park to document their homes and neighborhoods through collaboration and exchange.

Whitney is looking for participation from past and present residents of Detroit and Highland Park to add their past or present homes to the project and to potentially add their personal/communal histories to a new oral history component in development. OPEN CALL: 2026 Artist Residenciese (July- September and beyond)

Popps Packing is accepting applications for 1–3 month residencies taking place July 2026 and beyond.

Who can apply
Emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists working in all studio-based practices.

Residency details
• 4,500 sq/ft warehouse with shared studios and living space, private bedrooms.
• Two artists in residence at a time

Accommodations & fees
• Individuals: $850–$1,000/month (private bedroom)
• Collaboratives / families / collectives: $1,800/month (two bedrooms + exclusive studio)

All residencies include utilities, internet, laundry, workshops, gardens, mobile sauna, and outdoor project space.

Application deadline: deadline for summer residencies ( July - September) April15, 2026. All other inquiries are ongoing.

Join Faina Lerman & Yuen Hom for a fun Mahjong lesson at Popps Packing in Hamtramck! Limited spots—reserve now!
Mahjong Lesson at Popps Packing: 10 AM - 12 PM
$50 for the lesson

Come learn the classic game of Mahjong (American Mahjong) at Popps Packing. Leading the lesson are Faina Lerman, artist and director of Popps Packing and Yuen Hom, artist and creative professional. Together they have 20+ years of Mahjong experience and expertise that they will share with you.

You’ll start with the basics setting up the game, drawing, discarding, and getting into the rhythm of the game—including the famous Charleston (the initial tile exchange). Learn how to build hands and discover strategies for organizing your tiles. Plus, get the hang of reading the (NMJL)Mahjong card to match tiles with hands. And of course, you’ll love the sound and beauty of the clinking tiles!

Light refreshements will be provided.

After the lesson, stick around for a friendly yet competitive game of Mahjong!
