Should You Get BRCA Gene Testing? Some women with a family history of breast cancer have genetic mutations that raise their risk. And while genes are just one risk factor for the disease, knowing your status can help you make some important decisions.

KOBC was founded by Mandy Owens Harrison. I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (breast cancer) on July 23, 2013. It was a shock because I have had the same lump since High School and had four mammograms and ultrasounds within 19 years. Thankfully a radiologist decided to biopsy my 8cm tumor. I have endured chemotherapy for three months and have three to go before having a bilateral mastectomy followed by radiation.

I had an appointment with a geneticist who stated they recommended a full panel genetic test that is NOT covered by most insurance companies, including mine.

This organization has been established to help anyone who was diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer at an early age (under 50) with the expenses of the genetic testing. Depending on the test, the costs can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. But is desperately needed to save the lives of our children and catch other possibilities of cancer in the patient. Donations are much appreciated. T-shirts are in process and will be sold as a fund raiser, details will come soon.
