Are You Reading the Right Gauges?
Imagine driving a car and only checking the speedometer while ignoring the fuel gauge. You might feel like everything is fine right up until the moment you run out of gas on the side of the road.
Many of us do something similar in our spiritual lives. We measure our standing with God by how much we serve, how well we sing, or how gifted we are. And because those things look good, we assume everything must be fine.
Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, a congregation overflowing with spiritual gifts, and told them something that should stop us in our tracks. Tongues, prophecy, mountain-moving faith, even radical generosity. All of it amounts to nothing without love. Nothing.
That is a hard word. But it is also a freeing one. Because it means God is not primarily impressed by your output. He is looking at something deeper. He is looking at love.
This week, we are going to explore what that means and why it changes everything. Today, simply ask yourself: what gauge have I been watching?
Bible Verse
"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." - 1 Corinthians 13:1
Reflect:
What is the primary way you tend to measure your spiritual health, and is that gauge actually telling you the full story?
Make this your prayer today:
Lord, open my eyes to see where I have been measuring the wrong things. Help me to care more about what You care about. Amen.

It is easy to be impressed by ability. A powerful speaker, a gifted musician, someone who seems to move in the supernatural with ease. We are drawn to gifted people. But Paul had a jarring word for a church full of them: without love, all of it is just noise.
The church at Corinth had everything. Spiritual gifts were flowing, intellect was sharp, and resources were available. Yet Paul wrote one of the most direct letters in all of Scripture to correct them. Why? Because they had mistaken their gifts for evidence of God's approval, and in doing so, they had neglected the one thing that actually mattered.
This is not just a first-century problem. It is easy to measure our spiritual lives by what we can do, what gift we carry, or what role we fill. But God is not primarily impressed by our output. He is looking at our hearts. Here is the encouraging truth: love is available to every single person, regardless of gifting.
You do not need a platform or a title to love someone well. You just need a willing heart. That is where real spiritual life begins, not in what you can perform, but in how you choose to love.
Bible Verse:
"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." - 1 Corinthians 13:1
Ask yourself:
In your own life, where have you been tempted to measure your spiritual health by what you can do rather than by how you love?
Make this your prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the times I have confused activity with intimacy. Teach me to root my identity not in what I can do, but in how deeply I love You and others. Amen.
