Last week I got to serve as a reviewer for the DOE's Solar Decathlon/BuildingsNEXT program where I presented the honorable mention awards for Single Family Residential projects (about six minutes of the video link here: https://lnkd.in/eUjzVmkq). South and North Carolinians -- do you recognize the college name of one of the award winners? It's a college very close to home that worked on a project associated with Hurricane Helene.

As I shared with some students at the event, in the past nine months as they have worked on their projects, they have learned more building science than many of those in the industry know. They have already taken a huge leap forward in knowledge and innovation and I am hopeful that many of them will be behind the buildings of our future.

Things do get better! A great read from This Old House on improvements in home building from the 20th century. Things like refrigeration, electricity, and yes, air conditioning, changed the way we build. Even our interstates had an effect.

Last century brought us better insulation, weather-stripping, and double-paned windows. We're hoping to be a part of the 21st century innovations in home building and putting our own list of new milestones into every single home Addison builds.
