When you pay for genealogy/ genetic genealogy services, you aren’t just paying for the time and expertise of the genealogist, you are also getting access to the multiple tools and websites that they use to research your family. The cost of doing this on your own can sometimes exceed the cost of utilizing an experienced genealogist.

Interesting fact…
If you look back just 1 generation you have 2 direct ancestors, your mother and father.
If you look back 2 generations you have 4 direct ancestors, your paternal grandparents and your maternal grandparents.
If you look back 10 generations (approximately 250 years) you have 1,024 direct ancestors.

This means that 1,024 people, 512 couples, had to meet and become pregnant at a specific moment in time for you to exist. If just one of those 1,024 hadn’t been in the right place at the right time, or in the right mood, then you wouldn’t be here.

When reviewing death certificates I always look at the cause of death. It doesn’t help with genealogy but it is interesting. This man died at 86 years old. His cause of death was “worn out”.

When reviewing your DNA matches on a genealogy site, it’s important to understand autosomal DNA inheritance. This diagram is a simple look at the inheritance patterns.
