Opera Grand Rapids is celebrating unconventional women in their 2026-2027 season. This year they will perform Carmen at DeVos Performance Hall on April 30 & May 1.

A production that follows a woman who values freedom above all else. Set in Seville, a soldier, Don José, meets Carmen, a free-spirited beautiful Romani woman living her life on her own terms. When he falls for her, he falls hard. When she leaves him for the dashing toreador, Escamillo, Don José’s love turns into fatal obsession.
