“In The Shadows Of The Masters.” This series is a small reflection on how every artist is compared to those who came before. It’s also an homage to those greats who remind us to look for a new way to interpret the world around us.
This particular piece is based on one of Andy Warhol’s Mao paintings from 1972.

Our Most Realistic Portraits Are Abstract. This series celebrates the idea that each of us is unique and underneath it all there is no one like us. With that understanding, our true portraits are much different than what we see with our eyes. Our portraits are not what we look like. It is a deeper dive into who we are. We are abstract. Each one of us.

Beautiful day here today which requires that I bring the easel outside. “Remove The Mask And Reveal The Real You,” is back on the market after the buyer went with something else.
This is one of those paintings that took forever to complete. I kept circling around this idea of who we see ourselves to be versus who the world sees us to be.
So, this painting, is about that. Who are you behind the mask that the world sees? Now let it out and be free.
When I was finishing up this painting I was reminded of a time during my last show at The Richard App Gallery many, many years ago. There was a couple standing in front of one of my paintings and the woman says in disgust, “this painting is way too busy for my taste,” and she waved her hand at it and walked away with a slight huff. Overhearing that was such a great reminder that you can’t please everyone and at the end of the day the only person that has to really love what you do, is you.
Later that night, the painting sold to someone who didn’t think it was too busy.
Both were right.
Can’t believe we are at the 149th original painting from the ongoing series called, Our Most Realistic Portraits Are Abstract.
This series explores what makes us unique, and how we fit into the rest of the world. With that understanding, our true portraits are much different than what we see with our eyes. Our portraits are not what we look like. It is a deeper dive into who we are. We are abstract. Each one of us.

Sorry I didn’t post any art yesterday. I was busy eating s’mores. Back to work tomorrow.
The newest painting to come off the easel. “The Gardeners,” is a celebration of nature. It’s a celebration of getting outside and getting your hands dirty and connecting with the earth. It’s a celebration of just laying in the grass on a sunny day and finding shapes up in the clouds. It’s a celebration of the sounds the wind makes as it moves through the leaves.
As humans, it’s easy to forget that we are just a one part of the larger natural world. This painting is here to remind us of that.

Testing out a new tripod clamp so I thought drop a little 8x10 drawing while I’m at it.
