Focused on serving unhoused individuals and families at risk of losing housing, we connect people to essential resources from housing and employment to technology and transportation—through structured support that creates real pathways to stability
☀️ ONE PERSON HELPED MAKE SO MUCH OF THIS POSSIBLE. NOW WE NEED A COMMUNITY.
There is someone behind much of what Sunshine Community has been able to accomplish who deserves to be recognized.
Kelly Milan.
Kelly didn’t simply make a donation.
He provided a house for six months so people experiencing homelessness could have a safe place to stabilize while working toward permanent housing.
He supported Rideshelping us provide hundreds of rides.
And he has provided the financial support that has allowed Sunshine Community to continue operating and serving people.
Because someone was willing to invest, we’ve had the opportunity to show what this kind of grassroots work can accomplish.
🏠 8 people from our transitional housing program are permanently housed.
💼 Our 3 SER volunteers are housed and working.
🌱 We’ve assisted 3 people into treatment.
💻 We have a computer lab and ongoing free skill-building opportunities.
🚗 We’ve provided hundreds of rides.
🚲 Through our partnership with GJ BikeWrights, people are gaining their own transportation.
❤️ People have been connected to healthcare, medications, benefits, peer support, therapists, employment resources and housing.
We are incredibly grateful to Kelly.
But we also have to acknowledge something:
One person cannot—and should not—have to carry a community program alone.
This isn’t sustainable without broader community support.
We’re asking Grand Junction’s individuals, businesses, foundations and community partners to stand beside Kelly and help us continue what he helped make possible.
We’re not asking you simply to fund an organization.
We’re asking you to invest in people.
Invest in the person trying to get to their first day of work.
Invest in the person who needs an ID before they can get housing.
Invest in someone choosing treatment.
Invest in someone learning computer skills.
Invest in the person who once needed help and is now helping the next person.
Kelly showed what one person willing to invest in people can make possible.
Imagine what we could do if an entire community stood beside him. ☀️❤️
HELP US CREATE A SOBER, SAFE FALL CELEBRATION! 🎃
Sunshine Community and Better Days Co. are coming together to host a fun, sober-safe fall event at Sunshine Community — a place for people in recovery, families, friends, and community members to connect, laugh, create, and enjoy the season together.
We need a little help from our community!
🎃 We are looking for donations of:
- Pumpkins — lots of pumpkins!
- Pumpkin carving kits & tools
- Paint, paintbrushes & markers
- Art & craft supplies
- Fall/Halloween decorations
- Candy & snacks
- Non-alcoholic drinks
- Gift cards or monetary donations to help purchase supplies
Recovery deserves celebration.
People need places to have fun, build friendships, make memories, and belong — without drugs or alcohol being part of the experience.
Every pumpkin, paintbrush, bag of candy, and donation helps us create that space.

🚗🚲 YOU CAN’T USE A RESOURCE IF YOU CAN’T GET TO IT.
Transportation continues to be one of the biggest barriers we see.
A person can have a job interview, doctor’s appointment, housing opportunity, treatment intake or meeting with a landlord—but without transportation, that opportunity can disappear.
Sunshine Community has provided hundreds of rides to help people get where they need to go.
But the goal isn’t for someone to depend on rides forever.
That’s why our partnership with GJ BikeWrights is so important.
Through our bike and Earn-a-Bike efforts, bicycles have gone to Toilet Equityemployees, Ava Health participants needing transportation for work and school, and people experiencing homelessness.
GJ Bikewrights Community repairs bikes, teaches skills, holds clinics and continually shows up to help remove transportation barriers.
🚲 For someone without a car, a bike isn’t just a bike.
It can mean getting to work.
It can mean getting to school.
It can mean making an appointment.
It can mean independence.
And that’s exactly what we’re working toward.
A huge thank-you to GJ BikeWrights for continuing to believe in this work and in the people we serve. ❤️
