⚠️ **A Lower Insurance Rate Doesn’t Always Mean You’re Getting the Same Coverage**

I wanted to share something I’ve seen **three times in just the last three months**.

Clients have shopped their insurance, either on their own or after receiving a call promising a lower rate. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with shopping around. **You should make sure you’re getting a competitive rate.**

But please make sure you’re comparing more than just the price.

After these clients moved their policies, I reviewed the new coverage and found that certain coverages had been **removed or reduced** to help achieve that lower premium. That can leave someone with more financial exposure than they realize.

In each situation, I had asked whether the new policy provided the same coverage. I was told yes and that there was no need for me to review it. Unfortunately, once I compared the policies, that wasn't necessarily the case.

**My advice: Before switching insurance companies, compare the policies side by side, not just the premiums.**

Ask questions like:
• Are my liability limits the same?
• Were any coverages removed?
• Did my deductibles increase?
• Are there new exclusions or limitations?
• Am I actually getting the same protection for less money?

Saving $50 or $100 a month can sound great, but you want to know **where those savings are coming from.**

Were you involved in an accident? Was it your fault?
Your first call should be to the authorities.
Your second call should be to your loved ones.
Your third call should be to your insurance agent. (If you don’t have an agent, get one!)
Avoid calling the claims department directly. They will open a claim that stays on your record—even if the other party is found at fault. Disputing it later is a hassle you can easily avoid.

Does Your Auto Insurance’s Rental Car Coverage Actually Cover a Trip Rental?
Short answer: Almost never.
Rental reimbursement (or “rental car coverage”) on your personal auto policy is not free vacation wheels. In most cases it only kicks in after a covered loss, typically when your own car is damaged in an accident and is in the shop for repairs related to that claim.
