Leptin: Can you hear me?

Body: Huh?

Leptin: I said we're full.

Body: What?

Leptin: WE. ARE. FULL.

Body: Weird. I think we should check the pantry.

Leptin: No, seriously. We have plenty of stored energy.
We don't need more food right now.

Body: Sorry, I was busy thinking about chips.

Leptin: I've been sending signals all day.

Body: I didn't get the memo.

Leptin: That's because leptin resistance is a lot like talking to someone who isn't listening.

When your brain stops responding appropriately to leptin's signal, it may continue driving hunger, cravings, and food-seeking behaviors even when energy stores are abundant.

The problem isn't always a lack of willpower.
Sometimes the signal simply isn't being heard.

If you feel like you are doing everything right but your body is no longer responding, you are not alone! I see this every single day working with clients and even experienced this myself recently.

It is exhausting to eat the “right” foods and move your body only to be met with stubborn weight and low energy. You might feel like you have lost the manual for your own biology, leading to a sense of frustration that only deepens the exhaustion.

This often isn’t a lack of effort. It is a communication breakdown. Your brain might be “deaf” to leptin, the hormone that tells you that you have enough energy.

When that signal is missed, your brain behaves as if you are in a state of scarcity, even when you aren’t.

This is why more restriction or more intensity often backfires. You cannot force a body that feels unsafe to let go of weight. The path forward is about restoring the signal, not applying more force.
