U.S. Citizens! 🇺🇸

Today, 18 Marines with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment swore the Oath of Allegiance and received their U.S. citizenship aboard Battleship USS North Carolina.

Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen after he or she fulfills the requirements to become a citizen established by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

Always Thankful - No Matter Where

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, Marines take the opportunity to reflect and give thanks. As Marines, we are family - take care of each other during this holiday season.

This day in history:
November 21, 2010 - Lance Corporal William K Carpenter earns the Medal of Honor. LCpl Carpenter served as an automatic rifleman with Company F, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division, 1 Marine Expeditionary Force in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

LCpl Carpenter and a fellow Marine were manning a rooftop at Patrol Base Dakota when the enemy began an attack. The enemy assaulted the perimeter with hand grandes, one landing inside LCpl Carpenter's position. With zero hesitation, Carpenter threw himself toward the gr***de to shield his fellow Marine. His body absorbed the brunt of the blast, severely wounding him, but saving his partner. Lance Corporal Carpenter amazingly survived this, and today we honor and remember his bravery.
