Old Friends began as a retirement and rescue facility for pensioned Thoroughbreds. Then news broke of the inconceivable death of Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand in a slaughterhouse in Japan in 2002. Hi Emerald Downs It's me, Mike Man's Gold!
I'm enjoying retirement here in Kentucky. Did you know Emerald Downs was my favorite track when I was racing? I ran around your track more than 60 times! And you threw me a party when I left to come here! HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY! Blow out a candle for me!

A newer arrival to the farm, Dean Martini is also a Derby winner – but probably not the Derby you’re thinking of! In 2020, he made his stakes debut in the G3 Ohio Derby and made the most of it with a three-quarter length victory to kick off a career that would see him compete in stakes in four of the next five seasons.

We are saddened to announce the loss of Marshall Rooster last week just days after his 27th birthday. A 17-year resident of the farm, he came to us in 2009 after a career that saw him finish in the top 3 in 27 of his 74 starts. He will especially be missed by his paddock-mate Royalian. Condolences to all who loved him.
