People always ask where ideas come from. Honestly, they don’t show up fully formed.

They start out as a mess. A few brushstrokes. A random shape. Sometimes even a mistake you decide to keep messing with instead of fixing.

Then something cool happens. Your brain starts connecting the dots. You stop trying to force the painting into something, and just let it tell you what it wants to be.

If you keep looking long enough... eventually something starts looking back at you.

In celebration of Black Sheep Tattoos 5th year in business, I created this one time flash piece! This design is available as upper arm, forearm, thigh or calf placement. Whoever claims will get a framed and signed print of the design upon completion. If it’s calling your name, send me a DM before someone else does.

I get asked all the time what camera I use.
It's mostly about the settings.

I shoot most of my healed and fresh tattoos around:
• ISO: 1250 • Shutter: 1/500s

Obviously every shop has different lighting, so these aren't magic numbers but they're an awesome starting point.

Big shoutout to for putting me onto manual camera settings. I adjusted them to fit my setup, and they've made a huge difference in how accurately my tattoos photograph.

Save this post for later, and if you've got camera questions, drop them below.
