FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gallia County EMA Provides Flash Flood Recovery Update
GALLIA COUNTY, OHIO — Gallia County officials continue recovery efforts following the September 10 and September 12, 2026 flash flooding events that caused damage throughout portions of the county.
Gallia County Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Miller said damage assessments are just about complete with over 110 houses being assessed.
Assistance Available Now
While the recovery process continues, several local organizations are still providing assistance to residents affected by the flooding.
Cleaning supplies and essential household items, including blankets, toiletries and school supplies, may be available through the following locations and organizations:
Gallia County Emergency Management Agency
(740) 441-2036
Chapel Hill Church of Christ
(606) 831-0702
God’s Hands at Work
(740) 645-7609
American Red Cross
(800) 733-2767
Residents are encouraged to contact the organization before traveling, when possible, to confirm current availability of specific items.
Debris Disposal Assistance
Gallia County officials will have several large dumpsters placed in the back parking lot of the Gallia County Health department starting tomorrow September 23rd. The dumpsters will be available from 7am until 7pm. These dumpsters are for residents that still need to get rid of debris from the residence they live in that had flood water affect that living space. (Example- carpeting, flooring, spoiled foods, furniture, drywall, insulation) These are not to be used for general cleanup from debris that was washed onto your property from the flood waters, garages, out buildings, etc. Our main focus is to get people back into a clean and safe environment in their houses. Please be mindful of using the dumpsters and ensure all items are placed in a dumpster and not placed outside of the dumpsters on the ground. The dumpster area will be monitored for improper use.
Our focus at this time is to get residence living spaces cleaned up to where they can gain access to their homes again. We are looking into longer-term debris plan as we gain more information from the state about assistance.
Stay Informed
Recovery information is changing as assessments continue and additional resources become available. Residents are encouraged to check the Gallia County Emergency Management Agency page regularly for updates, debris disposal information and additional recovery resources.
Gallia County EMA thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as officials continue working throughout the affected areas.
