Summer at your Library begins June 15! This year, the Fresno County Public Library is proud to partner with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo with the theme "Go Wild For Reading!" In addition to fun programs, performances, and crafts occurring in our branches, we will also have our annual summer reading challenge! If you have not participated in previous year's summer reading challenges, here are a couple of reasons why you should consider participating this year!
1. Avoiding the summer slide: Did you know that children fall behind an average of 2 months in reading achievement scores during summer breaks? These losses are cumulative and build each summer. The best way to combat the summer slide is by encouraging your children to read!
2. Win Free Incentives: To motivate you to make progress in our reading challenge, we have several incentives that you can win once you reach specific milestones! Obtain 500 points and get a bookmark! Obtain 1,000 points and get a book! Return or submit your survey and get this year's exclusive pin! And the best part? You get to set your own reading goal! So, each 100 points you earn can be based on the amount of pages, books, or hours you read!
3. Participating in the challenge is easy: You can sign up for the summer reading challenge on your phone using the Beanstack app, or, if you prefer paper logs, you will be able to pick one up at your local library branch June 15- August 2.
We hope this persuades you to have a literary summer with us!

For June’s genre challenge: Mythology/Fairytales, Librarian Mark read Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery. Here’s his review:
“A dark and compelling journey, Slewfoot weaves a lush and graphic depiction of a 17th century puritan colony. The writing is accessible yet engaging, full of imagery and memorable characters. This story of female oppression and empowerment is a must for Folk Horror fans. Disappear into the dark woods with Abitha and Samson, you may not wish to return.”
