🏔️🎮 Math Bridge in the Sierra Nevada!
My visit to Mariposa County High School brought me up into the mountains, where Ben Jewell was guiding his students through a creative way of thinking about data: using video game logic to chart data points! 🎮📊
Ben’s classroom is large and arranged in a lab-style setup, creating plenty of room for students to collaborate, discuss ideas, and learn from one another.
Even with wildfires burning nearby, the Math Bridge classroom was full of energy, curiosity, and students working together. We’re grateful to get to visit this wonderful group and see the creative ways their instructors bring math to life!

📚✨ Another great visit to Livingston High School!
Teresa Mercado is now welcoming her third cohort of Math Bridge students, and this year, she’s taking on two back-to-back sections! She teaches both the high school and college portions of the course, giving her students a unique opportunity to experience college-level math right in their high school classroom.
When I stopped by, students were quietly locked in and tackling a refresher quiz. 📝 They were focused on their studies, but afterward, they were happy to chat, grab some snacks, and take a little break!
We love seeing students settle into their third year of the Math Bridge experience and watching their confidence grow. 💙

Merced High School is bringing BIG energy to Math Bridge! 🎓📚
I recently visited Alyse Lopez, who is teaching THREE full sections of Math Bridge throughout the school day, with more than 70 students under her instruction! 🙌
They’re already off to a fantastic start: every section recently passed their first test with flying colors! 🎉📈 Now, they’re looking ahead to the college portion of the course and are excited to take the next step in their Math Bridge journey.
Our visit was full of loud conversations, lively energy, and plenty of enthusiasm, but what stood out most was how incredibly polite and welcoming these students were. 💙

My visit to Dos Palos High School was full of energy, familiar faces, and some creative statistics learning! 📊🧱
We’re excited to have Gabby Tovar returning for her second year as a Math Bridge instructor. When I stopped by her classroom, students were getting hands-on with statistics concepts using LEGOs, M&M’s, and calculators! 🍫🧱🧮
The class was excited to meet me, and it was especially wonderful to see so many students who remembered me from their Math Bridge information session. Those connections make visits like these even more meaningful! 💙
We’re looking forward to another great year with Gabby and her students at Dos Palos. Keep learning, experimenting, and building those statistics skills! 📈✨

This year, we’re excited to welcome Chaim Beardsley at Atwater High School Falcons as a new Math Bridge instructor! Chaim is teaching both the high school and college portions of the course and has already built a lively, energetic classroom full of students who are eager to learn.
Many of these students are balancing Math Bridge alongside athletics, clubs, and busy schedules, yet they continue to make time to succeed in the course. I was especially impressed by how enthusiastically they’ve been tackling new concepts! 📈👏
Several students also expressed interest in future speaking opportunities so they can share their experiences and build valuable skills for their resumes. We love seeing students recognize the many ways their Math Bridge experience can open doors beyond the classroom. 🎤🎓
Keep up the great work, Atwater! We’re excited to see what this group accomplishes this year. 💙

Another Math Bridge classroom visit at El Capitan High School! 🎓📚
I stopped by Kyle Clinton’s Math Bridge class to meet this year’s students and see the class in action. Kyle has previously assisted with the Math Bridge project, and this year marks his first time teaching his own Math Bridge class!
This spring, Jeanne Lane of Merced College will periodically visit both of El Capitan’s Math Bridge classrooms throughout the week to lecture on college-level material, while Carly Schuerman and Kyle continue providing support in their classrooms. 👩🏫📖
We’re excited to see this collaborative model in action and to support another group of students as they take on college-level mathematics!

Who said statistics has to be taught from a textbook? 🎲📊
During my visit to Buhach Colony High School, I found Justin Tanzillo getting creative in his Math Bridge classroom with a game of Monopoly!
Buhach Colony is running two sections of Math Bridge, both taught by Justin, who teaches the high school and college portions of the course as authorized by Merced College. During my visit, he was using Monopoly to get students engaged while helping them explore statistics through a familiar, hands-on activity. 🏠💰📈
It’s a great example of how Math Bridge instructors can connect college-level concepts to activities that make learning interactive and applicable.

We’re back in the classroom at El Capitan High School! 📚✨
It was great to visit Carly Schuerman’s Math Bridge class, where Carly is returning for her second year with the project and continuing to do phenomenal work with another packed classroom of bright, promising students. 🎓
During our visit, students were getting set up with their Canvas accounts so they could access the college-level resources and materials available through Math Bridge. 💻📖
We’re excited to see what this group accomplishes this year!

🍩🎓 Another Math Bridge kickoff!
It was wonderful meeting our newest students at Golden Valley High School! Golden Valley is running two Math Bridge sections with Ms. Nicole Austin, who serves as both the high school and college professor through our partnership with Merced College. 📚❤️
I brought some donuts to celebrate the start of the semester and remind our students that they’re appreciated!
I’m excited to follow their journeys and hear their stories when I return for spring interviews. 🌱✨
