Statement regarding Diana Paxson

Due to recent events in the greater Heathen community Elk Ridge Kindred makes the following statement:

Elk Ridge Kindred is not officially associated with any larger Heathen organizations. The Kindred is only officially associated with the Frederick Covenant of Unitarian Universalists Pagans and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick.

As inclusive adherents to the modern Heathen Religion we stand firm in our Deeds and Words. Havamal 127 states: “When you see misdeeds, speak out against them, and give your enemies no peace.”

Diana Paxson has been a recommended author and teacher that Elk Ridge Kindred once held in the highest regard. That ends today due to credible accusations of sheltering and being an apologist for abusers and abusive behavior.

Know that Elk Ridge Kindred events are safe places for anyone that hears the call of the gods and that any concerns brought to Kindred leadership will be dealt with swiftly with full transparency.

In preparation for our Public Blóts today, we wanted to post a link to an Indigenous-led organization that directly benefits Indigenous folks.

As part of our ritual, we will be doing a Land Acknowledgement, which is a statement of recognition of the Original Stewards of the land we are gathering on. In the case of Frederick, Maryland, that is the Piscataway-Conoy People.

However, we recognize that Land Acknowledgements without further action are unhelpful. So, we encourage you to donate to, and share, the organization listed below. We have chosen Indigenous Women Rising as our focus organization for today. Please encourage others to donate and share as well!
