There are five layers in a hide and the one your gear comes from determines everything.

Full grain sits at the top, followed by top grain, splits, genuine leather, and bonded, which is not real leather at all. The biggest indicator of quality is fiber structure. Tighter fibers mean more durability and less chance of failure when it counts. Beastmaster builds primarily with top grain leather because it combines the tight, high-quality fibers from the top of the hide with a clean finish that looks as good as it performs. If your gear is labeled genuine leather, it is time to have a conversation about an upgrade.
