Gardner received an opportunity to go for a Dolphin 🐬 Calling experience. He had a remarkable time driving the boat and learning about dolphins. I think this boy would have been a merman in another life. He lives for the water.

We got our calendar for the next thirty days. Let’s just say we have some time at home. We have been given a rough schedule for the next few years. It’s going to be interesting. I am a planner. So I’m attempting to put my head around how to make birthdays and holidays special as we have treatment on both kids birthdays.
Anyone have practical tips for having these hard treatments during the holidays?
Spending our day being thankful for friends and spreading joy.

We pray this over our friends. Gardner probably won’t be able to join his friends for a while but until then we will continue to learn what we can from home and the hospital. 💚

Good news and good spirits this morning.
They drew a blood culture and so far nothing has grown — no bacteria. Gardner still sounds awful, but it’s looking viral. He’s on an antibiotic to help clear up the pneumonia, and if he continues to hold steady we should be able to go home soon and come back Monday.
For anyone following along who wonders why they treat every fever and respiratory illness so aggressively: children with leukemia are at very high risk for sepsis. Chemotherapy knocks down the white blood cells that normally fight infection, so even a common virus or bacterial infection can move fast and become life-threatening. That’s why blood cultures, early antibiotics, and close monitoring are non-negotiable — even when it turns out to be viral.
We’re grateful the culture is negative so far and hopeful we’ll get to sleep in our own beds again soon.
