Helpful Claims Tips

While you wait for the claims process to move forward, here are a few things you can do:

- Safety First! Your safety and well-being always come first. Avoid damaged or potentially unsafe areas, and never put yourself at risk to inspect property.
- - Document the Damage. When it is safe, take photos and videos of any visible damage before beginning cleanup or repairs.
Prevent Further Damage. Take reasonable, safe steps to protect your property from additional damage, such as arranging temporary tarping or water mitigation. Keep receipts for any expenses incurred.
- Keep Damaged Items. When safe and practical, avoid discarding damaged belongings until the adjuster has reviewed them or provided instructions. Create an inventory of affected items.
- Save Your Receipts. Keep copies of invoices, estimates, temporary repair costs, and any additional expenses related to the loss.
- Be Cautious of Contractors. Work with reputable, properly licensed and insured professionals. Avoid signing contracts or authorizing major repairs until you understand the claims process and speak with your adjuster.
- Stay in Communication. Respond to your claims adjuster's requests and keep a record of important conversations, documents, and correspondence.

With heavy rainfall expected this weekend, sandbags will be available to Foley residents beginning at noon today, Friday, Oct. 2, at the old Public Works facility, 120 E. Orchid Ave.

Sandbags, sand, and shovels will be provided. Residents will fill their own sandbags on site.

Access: Use the north gate at the east end of E. Marigold Ave., behind South Baldwin County United Way.
