Florence B Mathis Elementary School

Our Mathis Lions had a great time participating in our annual Walk to School event Wednesday morning! Thank you to everyone who joined us to get moving and start the school day off on the right foot!

Mrs. Randall’s class used StandUp, HandUp, PairUp to review for their social studies test.

Congratulations to Mrs. Johnson’s class on achieving their first positive behavior goal!

Ms. Abby's class had so much fun celebrating one of their friends turning FIVE! They love taking time to celebrate their classmates’ special milestones and creating sweet memories together as a classroom family. Happy 5th Birthday!

School will be closed Friday, October 9 due to weather.

Good afternoon parents,

We have been closely watching the activity in the Gulf, as I’m sure many of you have. I will say this storm has been a little unpredictable as weather can be.

We have made the decision to close school on Friday, October 9th. I wanted to get this to you as far in advance as I could because I know many of you have to make plans. We do not like to do this, because it affects so many, but we have to take all factors into consideration and of course, the most important, the safety of our students and our staff. Along with school being canceled, all afterschool and extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday are also canceled.

Also, just as a reminder, students are on fall break through October 14th. They are expected to return to school on Thursday, October 15th. If for some reason those plans change, you will hear directly from us.

We have been through these before and we will get through this one as well. Please stay up to date with the forecasts as we go into Friday and we will be back in touch if updates are needed.

Thank you and please stay safe.

A little culture, a lot of creativity, and some seriously amazing artwork! Our students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by creating colorful cacti and Mexican-inspired sun and moon folk art. We loved watching their personalities shine through in every piece!

Ms. Sherrill's class met their 2nd positive behavior goal for this quarter. They enjoyed lunch in the classroom as their reward!

Tonight, our ESL team hosted our annual Hispanic Heritage Night! A huge thank-you to all the families who joined us and shared their culture through traditional attire, stories, and delicious homemade dishes. We are also grateful to Vallarta Mexican Restaurant for their generous food donation. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special evening a success!
