Flashes of light is arching power lines and blown transformers and not lightning, as mentioned in the previous post ice accretion across northern parts of the region, especially Ulster and Dutchess has reached the limit for trees and utilities.

Temps will only crash further throughout the day and temps tonight will drop into the teens. Crank the thermostat, bottle some water, take steps to protect water lines from freezing. Outages in these areas are growing exponentially by the hour, outages this extensive may lead to extended restoration times.

Please stay away from down power lines, be aware of failing limbs and trees. Central Hudson is now reporting 19k outages, the map shows the line in which the heaviest icing is occurring. As mentioned yesterday, colder air has drained down the valley and led to colder surface temps.

Stay off the road is your travel is not essential.
