Amy Norman Receives ISBA Region 8 Outstanding Board Service Award

INDIANAPOLIS – Amy Norman, president of the M.S.D. of Lawrence Township Board of Education, has been selected as the recipient of the Region 8 Outstanding Board Service Award for 2026 by the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA).

The Outstanding Board Service Award honors school board members from across Indiana each year who have demonstrated above-and-beyond service to their school corporation and community. The honorees are recognized at the annual ISBA/IAPSS Fall Conference on October 5 at the Indiana Convention Center.

As president of the M.S.D. of Lawrence Township Board of Education, Amy Norman has provided steady and visionary leadership to one of Indiana’s largest and most diverse school districts, which serves approximately 17,000 students and employs more than 2,600 staff members. Throughout her tenure, she has championed initiatives focused on student achievement, workforce readiness, literacy, school safety, and teacher recruitment and retention.

Under her leadership, the district has undertaken more than one billion dollars in facility modernization projects, expanded career and technical education opportunities, strengthened workforce development partnerships, and continued to promote academic excellence for students. She has been a visible and vocal advocate for ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, language needs, and other learning challenges, are welcomed, supported, and empowered. Amy regularly engages with community leaders, legislators, and stakeholders to highlight the vital role of public schools in providing access to high-quality educational opportunities and pathways.

“Amy Norman is widely respected for her integrity, professionalism, and belief in the transformative power of public education,” said M.S.D. of Lawrence Township Superintendent Shawn Smith. “Her leadership has helped guide the district through significant growth and change, even while maintaining a clear focus on the best interests of students.”

The selection of Amy Norman for the 2026 ISBA Region 8 Outstanding Board Service Award recognizes the lasting impact she has made on the students, families, and staff of Lawrence Township.

ISBA Region 8 covers Marion, Hancock, Johnson, Shelby, and Rush counties.
