Thomas Hunt Morgan (1866–1945)

Thomas Hunt Morgan helped establish the connection between genes and chromosomes, transforming the field of genetics.

Working with fruit flies in the early 1900s, Morgan demonstrated that genes are carried on chromosomes and that inherited traits follow predictable genetic patterns. His experiments provided major evidence supporting modern heredity theory and helped explain how traits are passed between generations.

Morgan’s research also introduced the concept of genetic linkage, showing that certain genes are inherited together because they are located on the same chromosome. His work became foundational to modern genetics, molecular biology, and biomedical research.

In 1933, Morgan received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries concerning the role chromosomes play in heredity.
